Life Span for LED Bulbs
The average life span for LED bulbs is 50,000 hours. This means a person would have to leave an LED bulb on for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for almost six years before the bulb would need replacement. Suffice it to say, anyone who installs a LED bulb in a socket can basically install the bulb and forget about it for years, perhaps even a decade.
Seniors and Falls
It's no secret that seniors are at greater risk for falling. Often when a fall does occur, it means the end of their independent living. Something as simple as changing a light bulb can mean a drastic change in a senior's life as well as the family members who are also affected when their loved one can no longer live on their own.
There are devices that can help the elderly reach to change a light bulb, but if the bulb is encased by a light fixture there is nothing an elderly person can do but to climb on a ladder and risk a fall to remove part of the fixture. By installing LED bulbs throughout the home of a senior or anyone at increased risk for falls, it dramatically increases the length of time between light bulb changes. Often the length of time increases by years, which greatly furthers a person's ability to remain independent and in their own home.
