Emergency Exit Lights Go Beyond Signs

edge lit exit-1.jpgEmergency exit signs are in every public building that is up to code, but what many people don't realize is that the best ones offer more than the word "exit." They also include bright spotlights that make it easy to spot any obstacles, find doors, and find the way around corners. Without these lights, an exit sign is far less useful.

The Word 'Exit'

This, of course, is the hallmark of an emergency exit sign. It needs to be large and clear so that it can be seen even when the air isn't clear. Smoke, fire suppressant mist, and other materials often interfere with the view during an actual fire, so the size of the word "exit" must be large.

Fire isn't the only thing that triggers the lighting of exit signs. Depending on the setup, they can also light for all power outages, floods, earthquakes and other such events. Big signs ensure that everyone will be able to see them as long as the emergency power source still works. With some signs, backup batteries are right in the signs themselves. This makes them almost immune to being shut off by a disaster.

Accompanying Emergency Lights

These are the unsung heroes of emergency signs. They typically project from the bottom of the sign, and depending on how they are aimed, they can light up an entire room or hallway. Emergency lights make it easy to actually reach the exit without tripping on debris, other people, and damaged flooring. They also help calm the situation since people are generally more relaxed when they can see where they're going.

To get the emergency exit lights you need to keep your public building safe and comply with regulations, just contact us. We can also suggest specific models for your situation, so if you have any doubts about which options to choose, feel free to ask!
